2:00pm- 3:00pm Saline First United Methodist Church, Educational Wing
Join me for this 3-week, 6-session sensorimotor-based handwriting class for students entering 4th and 5th Grade! We will review the rules for good handwriting, talk about positioning, practice getting our bodies ready for writing with exercises that target not just the hand muscles, but the postural and shoulder muscles as well, and focus on increasing our stamina for writing at the paragraph level! Students will start to learn the value of handwriting, as well as improve their sense of self-efficacy for writing.
Please note: This group will NOT focus on cursive instruction, but on standard printing.
3:10pm- 4:00pm Saline First United Methodist Church, Educational Wing
The aim of this group is to show Middle Schoolers the value of handwriting within the context of journaling. Different journaling techniques will be explored, and we will discuss the different purposes of journaling (e.g., maintaining mental wellbeing, processing difficult emotions/events, and developing executive functioning/organization skills). Paired with movement-based self-regulation techniques, students will be developing a new strategy for their own mental health while also practicing handwriting in a meaningful way!
Please note: This should not be considered a substitute for mental health services.
